Our Clinical Movement Assessment uses the Movement Assessment Tool (MAT) — an innovative, clinically validated system for measuring human movement with accuracy and consistency. Whether you’re recovering from injury, managing long-term pain, or aiming to optimise your movement and function, this assessment provides objective, repeatable, and standardised testing across the whole body.

This service can be delivered as a standalone assessment, or it can be combined with our Advanced Digital Gait Analysis and Force Plate Assessment for a full-body biomechanical profile.

What Is the Movement Assessment Tool (MAT)?

The MAT system allows our Chartered Physiotherapists to assess mobility, strength, control, and function using real, quantifiable data. With adjustable markers, calibrated grids, and a range of validated testing positions, we can track your physical capabilities over time — ideal for rehabilitation, return-to-work/sport planning, or preventative screening.

All assessments are interpreted by experienced Chartered Physiotherapists, ensuring meaningful clinical insight and personalised recommendations.

What We Measure

We offer three focused movement assessment categories, depending on your goals and symptoms:

Lower Limb Assessment

Targets the foot and ankle, knee, and hip, with standardised tests for:

  • Single leg strength and balance.
  • Dynamic control (e.g., single leg squat, hop tests).
  • Ankle dorsiflexion range.
  • Hip and knee mobility and strength.
  • Limb asymmetries and compensation patterns.

Spinal Assessment

Focused on lumbar, thoracic and cervical spine, assessing:

  • Active range of motion (flexion, extension, rotation).
  • Segmental control and spinal mobility.
  • Trunk stability and postural control.
  • Core endurance and functional movement integration.

Upper Limb Assessment

Addresses the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand, with:

  • Shoulder range of motion (flexion, abduction, external rotation).
  • Scapular control and stability.
  • Upper limb strength and endurance.
  • Grip strength and fine motor control.
  • Repetitive movement testing for fatigue.

  2. Using the MAT system, your movement is measured in real-time.
