What Is Gait Analysis?

Gait analysis is the study of how your body moves during walking or running. Using a combination of advanced wearable sensors and 60fps high-resolution video, we assess your gait on a treadmill in a controlled, repeatable environment. This dual-approach allows us to capture subtle movement patterns and joint mechanics that traditional visual assessment might miss.

Advanced Technology Meets Expert Clinical Insight

Three small wireless sensors — placed on each foot and your sacrum (lower back) — track movement in real time, measuring a wide range of gait variables. Simultaneously, we record your movement using high-speed video from both the rear and the side. This footage is synchronised with the sensor data and reviewed in detail by our highly experienced Chartered Physiotherapists, ensuring you receive not only accurate metrics but also meaningful clinical interpretation.

What We Measure

Our system captures over 20 biomechanical metrics, including:

  • Cadence, stride length, and step symmetry
  • Foot strike pattern (heel, midfoot, forefoot)
  • Contact time and flight time
  • Shock and impact forces (in g-forces)
  • Braking and propulsion dynamics
  • Pronation excursion and velocity
  • Vertical ground reaction forces (vGRF)
  • Pelvic motion – tilt, rotation, and obliquity
  • Joint angles and postural mechanics from video footage
